iPhone photos better than DSLR?
I’ll often shoot the same subject with both DSLR and iPhone, and sometimes I prefer the iPhone photos. Maybe it’s the form factor of the camera, or the fixed lens, the field of view, that makes me see the image differently on the iPhone LCD than through the camera viewfinder. Maybe the iPhone engages my brain differently. Maybe taking the extra time to re-photograph with a different camera makes me re-evaluate the composition. I also often set my phone to shoot square (old Instagram habit), so there’s definitely a difference compositionally in those cases.
Nothing wrong with that, nothing extraordinary about it, I don’t think. Both devices are different imagemaking tools, I’m happy to have more options on the editing table.
In the photo above, I think the square ratio and the wider field of view are a better match for this view out a castle window in Ireland.
